For the Japanese koi fish represent strngth and power because they are often able to lift their entire body up and jump out of the water. Tattoos and other forms of ancient body art, such as piercing and scarification is experiencing unprecedented growth worldwide and it seems to be no different for our friends in the Middle East in countries such as Iran and Syria.
Hairdressing salons in the Middle East which usually only specialize in hairstyling and makeup have recently seen a surge of people going to them and requesting to get tattoos done along with their usual beauty treatments. It doesn't appear to be all cosmetic tattoos either.

In the past few years demand for tattoos has literally skyrocketed in Syria, probably due in no small part to the proliferation of the internet and an increase in the understanding and appreciation for the art of tattooing. Business can double and triple in the summer months with females going in to be inked and showing them off in public.
It seems that most Arabs are still quite rigid in their beliefs but seem to becoming more and more tolerant of tattoos particularly amongst young females. This seems to reflected in the amount of new tattoo studios opening up all the time all over Syria to cater for the demand.
